FUNSI, GHANA — Celebrated Ghanaian musician and cultural icon Wiyaala has officially been unveiled as a Fugu Ambassador and Tourism Ambassador in a colourful ceremony held in Funsi in the Upper West Region.

The event brought together distinguished chiefs, elders, community leaders, and residents who gathered in large numbers to honour the internationally acclaimed artist for her outstanding contribution to the promotion of Ghanaian culture and heritage.

Speaking during the ceremony, guests praised Wiyaala for her unwavering dedication to promoting fugu and Northern Ghanaian culture over the past two decades through music, fashion, and international performances.

The musician also welcomed attendees to a facility she has invested in within her hometown of Funsi, a development many described as a remarkable achievement and a strong demonstration of her commitment to community development.

For nearly 20 years, Wiyaala has consistently showcased Ghanaian culture on global stages while remaining deeply connected to her roots. Her advocacy for traditional fugu attire has helped bring international attention to Northern Ghanaian identity and craftsmanship.

Beyond her music career, Wiyaala has also been recognised for her humanitarian and community-based initiatives, particularly her efforts in supporting women, children, and young people. Her work in promoting sustainable cultural heritage and environmental consciousness has earned admiration both locally and internationally.

Community leaders at the event described her as a symbol of hope, determination, and pride for the people of Northern Ghana.

The new ambassadorial roles are expected to strengthen efforts to promote cultural tourism, preserve traditional heritage, and inspire young people across Ghana and beyond.

The ceremony ended with expressions of gratitude and celebration from community members, with many describing the recognition as well deserved.

“Congratulations, Wiyaala, for this honour. May your new role bring greater impact, greater opportunities, and greater inspiration to many young people across the globe,” one speaker stated during the event.
